Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday vowed to uproot corruption from the State at all levels and extended support to social activist Anna Hazare in his fight for the Jan Lokpal Bill.
Addressing students after paying tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at his memorial at Vallabh Vidyanagar near Nadiad, Mr. Modi said the people had entrusted him the task of “cleaning up” the State and he would “perform his duty” faithfully and to the best of his ability.
Mr. Modi said his “clean-up job” included uprooting corruption from all levels and he would not disappoint the people in this regard. Pointing out that Mr. Hazare was forced to threaten to launch an indefinite fast because the Congress government at the Centre was not serious to fight against corruption, the Chief Minister said he wanted to “clean up” the State to such an extent that “no more Annas” would ever be required to go on fast to ensure a corruption-free society.
