Students use brush strokes to fight graft

LUCKNOW: Instead of joining the crowd of slogan shouters on the streets, students of Lucknow Arts College on Friday exhibited their skills by making paintings and posters depicting various forms of corruption.

Saurabh Kanujia, a final year fine arts student made a painting depicting a superman flying over the Parliament. However, the superman here was Anna Hazare. The problems of terrorism, poverty, and unemployment was also shown, which result from corruption.

"It's a social awakening. With youth power leading anti-graft movement, the possibility of a change is not merely a dream. The government's statement that there is no magic wand that can weed out corruption is true, but they have to take a lead. If not, then common man like Anna will be forced to come to streets," said Saurabh.

Another student, Ashwani Kumar Prajapati, put up in simple words.

"If all of us believe that Anna is second Gandhi, then the importance of Bapuji has to come forward. His nonviolence still stands supreme. And the students will have to begin the war," he said. Ashwani made a portrait of Anna with Mahatma Gandhi standing by his side. Both the pictures resembled each other.

One of the students in his poster has compared UPA government with a python. The picture shows that Anna is holding the python's neck, and it is struggling.

"The government's condition is same as this python's," said the student. The poster carried a one-liner saying 'chhodnaa mat isko', (Don't leave it). Supporting the students was Girish Tiwari, an artist. Tiwari said, "This is the best way to let our feelings float."
