'Journey of Lokpal Bill very difficult'

Gondia: Although Anna Hazare was successful in the first phase of his agitation against corruption, people should not underestimate further obstacles on the way for a strong and independent Lokpal Bill. People should be ready for long struggle, said Prof Anil Joshi of Amgaon. He was speaking as chief guest and main orator in a seminar organized under the auspices of Samaj Jagruti Pratishthan in Vidharbha Sahitya Sangh Hall at Gondia.

The subject of the seminar was the necessity of an impartial and strict Lokpal Bill in the country. President of an anti-corruption organization of Gondia, Ranjeetbhai Jassani, was in the chair. Others who participated in the seminar included Dr Amol Dhurve, Adv Om Methi, Madhusudhan Agrawal and college student Sonal Lakhamapure.
Prof Joshi said there are no two opinions about the necessity and utility of Lokpal Bill in the country. Differences in opinion are about its structure, scope, jurisdiction and punitive powers which are going to be vested in the ombudsman. These points are going to be discussed in the second and final round of the discussions of this Bill. "Lokpal will harm the interests of the rich and powerful. We will have to guard against such vested interests," Joshi said. The post-agitation attitude of the government is a warning for all those who are either working with Anna Hazare or are in favour of this bill.
Joshi also praised the youths of the country, saying that they were not intimidated and supported the cause whole-heartedly. "It is the youths who will benefit the most if Lokpal Bill is implemented," he said.
