Hazare supporters in Dubai get bail
KOCHI: The public prosecutor in Dubai on Sunday granted bail for all the five Indians for organising a demonstration there to support the just-concluded anti-corruption fast by Anna Hazare and his team in New Delhi. However, release of one of the accused was delayed on technical grounds as his name did not appear correctly on the computer system of the prosecution, Advocate TK Hashik who represented three of the accused informed TOI in an e-mailed response. Al Mamzar Beach Park in Dubai to support Hazare's movement, without obtaining permission from the local authorities.This is a grave offence as per UAE's laws, and bail process was delayed because of Eid holidays, he said. Their bail plea was rejected on August 25 as the investigation was not complete then.Hashik said he had explained to the prosecutor that the intention of the accused was not against the state. Their intention was only to support Anna Hazare for a good cause. The accused are all professionals working in reputed companies and have never been involved in any criminal cases in UAE or India, Hashik said.
He said based on these arguments, he would request the prosecutor drop the case altogether after the investigation is completed. The decision will be announced in a week's time, he said.When asked about the condition of the accused who have been languishing in prison since August 21, Hashik said "They all are fine. Their families are also happy since they were granted bail, but they are not ready to respond to the press."
